Kindle lacks design style associated with Apple products. The easily marked , plastic white finish on the case and overall feeling of cheapness detracts from the Kindles innovative functions and abilities.
Some design flaws will irritate the Kindle users and particularly by placing the page flipping buttons along the sides of the unit so that pages are flipped each time the unit is moved from it’s case or replaced. Exposed on the edge is not the place for these buttons.
The Kindle’s pathetic cover is terrible for such a high priced unit. Remember those plastic sleeves that the pocket calculators were carried in? A plastic sandwhich with 2 plastic corner pieces to retain such a valuable device. The on button is on the back of the Kindle which means that the unit must be removed from the sleeve to switch it on or off. Here is an excellent opportunity for a manufacturer -
high quality Kindle cases.
The battery is a removable unit hidden behind a clip-on cover. That innovation is great as a back-up can be used while the other is being charged.
Amazon, with it’s huge resources of texts and manuals is able to supply the buyer a range that he is unlikely to exhaust. All 110 000 units of them. With the instant wireless connectivity the customer can instantly connect to the
Kindle store and buy whatever he desires for a couple of dollars. Bestsellers are currently priced at $9.99 which is a saving compared to the papr form.
Students , medical & law personnel this unit will serve you well with the ability to have available tomes of text and reference work and the benefit of easily being able to scan documentation to the Kindle and upload via the USB port. In addition wireless internet access and a free e-mail address allows any tract to be forwarded to the unit for a dime. Subscriptions to National and international journals via wireless give you all your favorites while you are on the road. A value added service is the Blog & RSS feed capability for a small charge.
The large qwerty keypad makes browsing and internet or local annotation and search functions very easy.Wikipedia is freely accessible via the wireless capability of the kindle and combined with the Kindle’s own built-in dictionary this should more than suffice.
One of the outstanding features is the ability to enlarge the text. THIS alone is a huge plus. Most cell & wireless devices fail miserably on this count but the Kindle makes reading for all eye types effortless. The kindle’s small size makes reading in bed or at an angle very comfortable.
Gone is the LCD screen so maligned in the past for reflections and invisibility in strong light. Ink is used electronically to duplicate the reflective quality that books and magazines have. No back lighting is necessary and the black and white screen with it’s crisp lettering is easily readable in any lighting conditions. Because back lighting is not necessary the unit does not generate much heat which is a huge benefit during long reading sessions.
Each
Kindle is allocated an e-mail account which allows you to forward documentation via internet connection to your unit in Microsoft Word, HTML, TXT, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, PRC and MOBI file formats.A small cost of 10 cents is charged for this. The Kindle can also browse the web via it’s browser and wiifi connection is free.Thousands of audio books are also available and can be loaded via the USB cable.
Wireless coverage , although using Whispernet and EVDO from sprint is still limited in western
Electronic piracy and file sharing is not possible with the
Kindle which eliminates that worry and the Kindle is going to change our lifestyle and the way we perceive e-books in the future.
